Patricia's painting career began when at 10 years old she won 1st in the State of Illinois in a painting contest. Her prize; a scholarship to the Chicago Art Institute every Saturday morning through High School.
Graduation from the Minneapolis School of Art
(BFA/1958) brought a Fullbright Fellowship to study painting at the Munich Academy of Art in Germany.
Graduation from San Francisco State University in Cinema (MA/1973) was followed by a Grant from the American Film Institute in LA. Her tenure teaching drawing and animation at SFSU developed a keen sense of seeing, timing, rhythm and spatial anomalies.
Today, her paintings reflect her abstract expressionist beginnings coupled with hours of real life observation. She loves to paint out doors in the snow grasping those special moments as the elements change and speak to one another. Her studio work (large oil on canvas paintings) this year has been of sand hill cranes caught in an instant of change and of pulses of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Amlin lives and works in Santa Fe, NM.
